My current favourite Glossier products

Glossier

I don’t think I was the only one who, upon hearing that Glossier finally ships to the UK, immediately got on their site and proceeded to make a huge order. I also don’t think I’m the only one who find Glossier’s ethos of makeups that ‘aren’t really meant to be noticed’, but to give a ‘barely there, lit-from-within effect that plays up features instead of masking flaws’, in a world where everyone seems to strive for the perfect, airbrushed instragram selfie, both intriqueing and utterly refreshing.

So today I’m going to talk you through a few products from Glossier that I’ve been testing out and really loving so far, and what I consider worth purchasing. Mind you, I predict this won’t be my only post on Glossier as I am highly anticipating to be trying out and inevitably loving more products. But here are my top 6 favourite products so far from Glossier.

1. Glossier Boy Brow

This has definitely replaced all my other brow products because it simply takes care of ‘everything’. Glossier boy brow is a one product that does it all; it fills in, thicken, set brows and keep them in place throughout the day. I absolutely love the formula, which is a creamy wax that fills in the gap and instantly makes my brows look naturally full.  It also doesn’t flake or stiffen, but keep a soft flexible hold and looks extremely natural. And best of all, for someone who usually hates doing her eyebrows, it takes literally seconds for me to do them now, which is such a joy!

2. Glossier Haloscope

A twist up stick hilighter with a dual-delivery formula; genuine crystal extracts to deliver the glow, and vitamin rich moisturisers in the core to hydrate the skin and gives a dewy finish. I’m using the shade Quartz, which is a pearlescent pink and supposed to be a universally flattering shade. I love that Glossier haloscope gives a natural lit-from-within glow that seems to blend in and become part of your skin, making it easier for me to fool the world that I possess a natural healthy radiant complexion.

3. Glossier Generation G

A new generation lip colour that gives ‘the look and finish of just-blotted lipstick’. I love the formula, which feels like a matte lip balm and easy to just whack on without a mirror but still gives a polished finish. I got the shades Crush; a peachy nude, and Leo; a warm brown nude, both are naturally flattering and would suit everyone. Glossier also says that these are lipsticks that will adapt to your natural lip shade, as they allow your lip colour to show through. I will definitely be ordering more shades (already eyeing Like, and Crush).

4. Glossier Stretch Concealer

I was very intriqued to try this concealer not only because it seems to be a cult favourite to so many bloggers, but also because it looks very similar to my holygrail Nars soft matte complete concealer. Glossier stretch concealer is supposed to be a new type of concealer, containing elastic microwaxes that move with you face so it doesn’t cake or settle into fine lines or dry patches. I love the creamy hydrating texture and how easy it is to blend into the skin using just my finger. I use Glossier stretch concealer mostly under my eyes because of its moisturising texture. It does an amazing job at concealing as well we brightening my dark undereye circles.

5. Glossier Super Bounce

Glossier Super Bounce is a hydrating serum containing Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin B5 as its key ingredients, which maintain moisture and soften the skin to reveal a plumper, bouncier and more subtle complexion. I love the watery gel texture, which feels refreshing and hydrating and sinks into the skin pretty quickly leaving my skin feeling soft and supple afterwards. A major gripe I have with this product is its size. Glossier super bounce only comes in a tiny 15ml bottle (a good size to travel with) but at a price equal to at least 30ml worth of product. Although I love this product I might just stick with The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid, which is very similar if not identicle but at a much lower price.

6. Glossier Priming moisuriser rich

This is without a doubt my new holygrail moisturiser. Glossier priming moisturiser rich is a perfect winter moisturiser, or for anyone with normal to dry skin that is in need of nourishing hydration. I adore the sumptuous creamy texture, which resembles a thick whipping cream but with zero greasiness. The cream just sinks in so well and leaves skin feeling super hydrated, comfortable, soft and supple, a perfect canvas for makeup afterwards. I adore the clean sophisticated scent, which reminds me of Sisley skincare. I will be stocking up on this for winter!

The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer vs High Spreadability Fluid Primer

The Ordinary Primer

Primer has become such an integral step in my makeup routine. It’s one of those products that once you’ve tried you can no longer be without, and I can personally guarantee that the benefits are real. Good primers will smooth pores, hydrate or mattify your skin, blur imperfections, and allow your makeup to go on beautifully and lasts for much longer.

Today I’m going to be reviewing two primers from The Ordinary; a brand that truly needs no introduction. The two primers in questions are the High-Adherence Silicone Primer, and the High-Spreadability Fluid Primer.

The Ordinary High Spreadability Fluid Primer

What it says on the website:

A light-weight serum like formula that increses the spreadability of subsequent complexion makeup to help avoid the unnatural and uneven accumulation of pigments especially around the eyes and on dry skin. Also acts as a light, non-oily surface hydrator for a natural dewy look. Ideal for application before concealing, or applying full coverage foundation for a natural dewy look.

My thoughts:

The Ordinary High Spreadability Fluid Primer has a ‘hydrating’ silicone gel texture that glides and smooths on to the skin very easily. Despite having a silicone consistency, the high spreadability fluid primer feels nice and silky and very comfortable on my dry skin. It does a beautiful job at blurring pores, fine lines, and dry patches, and provides a very smooth canvas to allow an even and flawless application of makeup.

The Ordinary High Spreadability fluid primer

The Ordinary high spreadability fluid primer gives a natural finish to my foundation (neither dewy nor matte), and stops my foundation and concealer from gathering or clinging on to any dry patches or fine lines. It does prevent my makeup from moving, fading, or looking blotchy throughout most of the day (I would say 8 hours max). I wouldn’t say it keeps my makeup looking fresh and flawless by the end of the day but it is sufficient for everyday use in my opinion.

In terms of packaging, the high spreadability fluid primer comes in a glass bottle (not so travel friendly) with pipette dropper to dispense the product. Because the primer has a thick gloopy consistency, it is quite difficult to suck up the product with the pipette and this can get quite tedious. Although it is definitely not a dealbreaker, I would much prefer a squeezy tube, which I think would dispense the product much more effectively.

The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer

What it says on the website:

Ideal to use alone for a naturally perfected finish, or under makeup to improve longevity. The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer uses advanced adaptive silicone to act as a matte, hydrating, blurring primer for makeup that looks higher in definition and adheres for longer.

The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer can also be used alone as a non-greasy hydrator tht reduces the looks of pores and of imperfections.

My Thoughts:

The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer is a white cream with a texture of silicone moisturiser. It dries down quickly but feels very comfortable on the skin, unlike some silicone mattifying primers that tend to suck any surface oil or moisture completely, making my dry skin feeling completely parched. It is mattifying but not drying and works well even on dry skin. The high adherence silicone primer does an equally good job as the high spreadability primer at blurring pores, fine lines, imperfections, and providing a smooth canvas for makeup application, which goes on flawlessly.

The Ordinary high adherence silicone primer comes packaged in a sleek and travel friendly plastic tube, which I love. But what I absolutely adore about this primer, and what I consider to be its star quality is the lasting power. The Ordinary high adherence silicone primer, as the name suggested, is literally a makeup superglue. Once my makeup goes on it just does not budge and lasts for well over 10 hours (I once used this before getting on an overnight longhaul flight and when I arrived my makeup still looked as good as new!)

Final thoughts

I’m a big fan of both The Ordinary High Spreadability Fluid Primer and High Adherence Silicone Primer for different reasons. I think people with dry skin will appreciate the high spreadability fluid primer for being able to offer hydration and comfort whilst providing a smooth and silky feel to the skin like a silicone primer. I know some people are put off by the feel of silicone, but this primer will really change your mind.

The high adherence silicone primer will likely appeal to people with normal to oily skin but having said that, I have dry skin and I still love it. The Ordinary has done an amazing job at creating 2 primers that actually cater for all skin types in my opinion, and I will continue to use both and repurchase when I run out.

Have you tried either or both of The Ordinary Primers? What are your thoughts?

BareMinerals BarePro Performance Wear Liquid Foundation Review

bareMinerals BarePRO Performance Wear Liquid Foundation

I generally tend to steer away from a full coverage foundation because in my mind it conveys something heavy, cakey, and very detectable on the skin. But what really caught my attention recently was the launch of BareMinerals BarePro Performance Wear liquid foundation, which promises to provide full coverage but with a natural finish and lightweight feel on the skin.

Here are the key features of BareMinerals BarePro Performance Wear liquid foundation;

  • Full coverage
  • Soft-focus natural matte finish
  • Breathable formula
  • Oil free
  • SPF 20
  • High performance formula blurs pores & imperfections
  • Up to 24 hour wear powered by Mineral Lock long-wear technology
  • Mineral pigments blend with lipids in the skin to lock in coverage
  • Natural bamboo stem extract provides a smooth , soft-focus finish
  • Papaya enzymes gently improve texture over time
  • Self setting finish
  • Transfer resistant
  • Stays colour true
  • Suitable for all skin types
  • 30 shades
  • Price £29

I have been testing out BareMinerals BarePro Performance Wear foundation for a few weeks now and I have to say it has completely changed my viewpoint with regards to wearing a full coverage foundation.

First of all the texture is not at all heavy. Bareminerals BarePro Performance Wear foundation has a creamy liquid consistency (which is not too runny either), and the foundation spreads and blends very easily on the skin. I prefer using a Beauty Blender to give a more flawless, natural finish but have also tried using a brush and it has worked equally well (I also notice that using a brush gives me more coverage). I am in the shade Pecan, which matches my skin tone extremely well, and with 30 shades to choose I’m sure you will be able to find your perfect match easily.

I generally tend to steer clear from a full coverage foundation because in my mind it conveys something heavy, cakey, and very detectable on the skin. But the recent launch of BareMinerals BarePro Performance Wear liquid foundation

I generally tend to steer clear from a full coverage foundation because in my mind it conveys something heavy, cakey, and very detectable on the skin. But the recent launch of BareMinerals BarePro Performance Wear liquid foundation

One pump of Bareminerals BarePro Performance Wear foundation is enough for give me a medium to high, yet natural-looking coverage. The foundation covers most of my minor blemishes without the need to use a concealer (I still use concealer for my undereyes, just because undereye concealer is something I can’t do without!).

The finish of Bareminerals BarePro Performance Wear foundation is simply beautiful, flawless and extremely natural-looking. It blurs imperfections, gives your skin a gorgeous soft-focus look, and has a soft-matte/satin finish.

I also love the fact that Bareminerals BarePro Performance Wear foundation has a self-setting finish, which means for someone with normal to dry skin like me there is no need to powder (if you have oily skin, I would suggest powdering during the day to keep everything looking fresh). Finally Bareminerals BarePro Performance Wear foundation really does have an amazing longevity and stays firmly in place all day without breaking up. Another five-star product from BareMinerals imo!

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick Review

Huda Liquid Matte Lipstick

Huda Liquid Matte Lipstick

I’m a complete convert when it comes to liquid lipsticks. The intense colour and the long-lasting formula, which means I can pretty much leave my lips alone for most of the day without constantly having to reapply, win over most regular lipsticks for me. Needless to say, I’m constantly on the lookout for the best liquid lipstick both in terms of formula and colour range, and I feel like I’ve found it in Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick.

The formula and colour range of Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick really impress me. As someone who’s only comfortable wearing neutral colours, the colour range of Huda liquid lipstick is right up my street. There are some bold shades as well but mostly the range focuses on variations of brown tone, mauvey nudes, which are very wearable and daytime (as well as night time) appropriate. The two colours I picked are Venus, which is a mauvey brown nude, and Girlfriend, which is a brick brown nude with orange undertone.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick

In terms of application and formula, the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick has a standard doefoot applicator but with a curved tip that hugs the curve of your lips, allowing for a very precise application. The formula of Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick is very watery and lightweight. It almost feels like applying pigment water to your lips, which I actually enjoy because it doesn’t feel heavy or sticky like most other liquid lipsticks do.

Once dry the formula feels incredibly comfortable on the lips; it’s not drying, flaking or cracking and, unlike most liquid lipsticks out there, it doesn’t leave my lips feeling like the Sahara desert. In fact I can honestly say that Huda Beauty liquid matte lipstick is the most comfortable and lightweight liquid matte lipstick I’ve ever tried. It’s also kissproof and transferproof, which means it has an amazing longevity.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick

Because Huda Beauty liquid matte lipstick has a watery consistency some people may feel like they need to apply a few layers for the colour to come through but this is definitely not the case. I’ve learned that you just need to be patient and let the watery formula dry completely and the colour will come through just with one application. Another thing I love about the formula is that it applies very evenly without the slightest need to faff with it. The finish is very seamless, very even, and looks flawless and natural, unlike those cakey liquid matte lipstick that I’d tried and hated. Huda Beauty liquid matte lipstick also has a yummy vanilla/chocolatey scent, which I personally love.

So all in all Huda Beauty liquid lipstick is definitely a winner for me. I adore the formula and the colour range, and can’t wait to pick up more shades!
